White House agrees to ethics provisions in market structure bill
The White House has agreed to ethics provisions in the CLARITY Act, a crypto market structure bill, after talks with Republican Sens. Cynthia Lummis and Bernie Moreno. The deal is meant to help secure support from some Democrats in a closely divided Senate, where passage still appears uncertain because 60 votes are needed. The bill, already passed by the House in July 2025, has been delayed by shutdowns and disputes over ethics, tokenization, stablecoin rewards, and developer protections. A major sticking point is concern over President Donald Trump’s crypto ties, including his memecoin and his family’s World Liberty Financial venture. White House officials say they have accepted a broad ethics package to address Democratic concerns. Even so, several Senate Democrats want hearings on Trump’s industry links before any vote. Bitcoin rose above $66,000 amid optimism that the bill could advance.
