Worldcoin Rebrands as World, Launches New Eyeball Scanning Orb
Worldcoin, co-founded by Sam Altman, is rebranding to "World" and launching an updated iris-scanning Orb. The new Orb features 30% fewer parts and triple the production capacity, powered by NVIDIA’s Jetson for faster AI operations. It aims to provide "proof of personhood" amid rising concerns over bots online. Initial Orbs were deployed in Berlin, facing scrutiny from privacy advocates and investigations in France and Germany. To address these issues, the Orb's core components will be open-source, and it includes a removable SD card for transparency. Updates to World ID and the World App were also announced, with World ID 3.0 enhancing user privacy through anonymized data storage. A new feature, "Deep Face," will verify user identities against stored images during interactions. The World App will introduce a “mini-apps” tab and support multiple languages and currencies for broader accessibility.
