X (formerly Twitter) is developing a Smart Cashtags feature that will link ticker symbols in posts to real-time financial data. Users will be able to specify assets such as stocks or cryptocurrencies using cashtags (e.g., $BTC, $NVDA). Tapping a Smart Cashtag will provide live prices, price changes, charts, and related posts within the app. This tool aims to clarify ambiguous ticker symbols, especially in crypto markets, and may use smart contract addresses for some assets. X plans to seek user feedback prior to a public release expected next month. It is not yet clear if the feature will include trading or monetization options.
