X restricts Changpeng Zhao’s account after name change removes ‘Binance’
The former CEO of Binance, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, had his account on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) temporarily restricted though no specific reason was provided apart from a potential violation of the platform's rules. The restriction occurred two days after Zhao's resignation as Binance's CEO and subsequent plea of guilty to a single felony charge as part of a settlement with US authorities. Zhao speculated that the restriction may have been an automated response to changing his profile name. In the recent $4.3 billion settlement with Binance, the US Department of Justice required Zhao to pay $150 million as part of civil cases and he also pled guilty to failing to maintain an effective Anti-Money Laundering program at Binance.
