XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPL) explains why a bug that threatened the 100 billion XRP cap sat hidden for years

Summary

Researchers found an 11-year-old integer-overflow flaw in the XRP Ledger that could theoretically have let an attacker exploit huge, fabricated token trades to bypass payment checks and create billions of XRP. The vulnerability reportedly required hundreds of deliberately constructed operations and was never triggered; no XRP was created or lost. RippleX fixed the issue after it was reported on Sept. 22. The XRP Ledger Foundation says it plans to expand AI-based adversarial testing, formal verification and its bug bounty program.
