Zcash Activates NU7 With 25-Second Block Target and New Fee Reserve
Zcash activated its NU7 upgrade at mainnet block 3,543,405, reducing target block spacing from 75 to 25 seconds. Block rewards and issuance schedules were adjusted to keep faster block production from mechanically increasing coin issuance. NU7 also reserves 60% of transaction fees for a public fund that may support future miner rewards, with 40% available to miners immediately. The upgrade retires support for version-four transactions in the Sprout pool. Node operators must run NU7-compatible software to remain on the consensus chain. Faster target blocks may help users reach confirmation thresholds sooner, but block arrival times remain variable and wallets, exchanges, and payment services set their own confirmation and compatibility policies.
