Aave weighs closing 6 V3 blockchain markets, offboarding 50 low-use reserves
Aave governance is considering a cleanup of its V3 markets that would retire low-use assets and shut down entire deployments on six blockchains. The proposal targets 50 underused reserves and 21 matured Pendle principal token listings across 11 deployments, plus all 25 reserves on Sonic, Scroll, zkSync, Metis, Soneium, and Aptos. Altogether, the affected markets hold about $98.1 million in supplied assets and $15.6 million in debt. The move follows declining liquidity and revenue on several chains, especially Aptos, which launched only 11 months ago but saw liquidity fall 94% over six months and quarterly revenue drop below $1,000. Scroll, zkSync, Metis, and Soneium were already frozen; Sonic and Aptos would be frozen next. The cleanup aligns with Aave’s newer risk and technical asset listing frameworks and reflects a strategic refocus rather than a full retreat from multichain expansion.
