Crypto companies urge AI firms to give Bitcoin developers early access
Crypto companies and organizations, including BitGo, Bitwise, Blockstream, Kraken, Ledger and Trezor, urged frontier AI labs to give Bitcoin and other open-source financial infrastructure defenders early access to their most capable models. The letter, backed by the Bitcoin Policy Institute, asks labs to create or expand trusted-access programs for qualified defenders, arguing that many developers lack access to lab cyber tools and are limited by guardrails on public systems. The signatories say frontier AI can rapidly scan codebases, find weaknesses, and improve security work, but it also strengthens attackers. They warn that open-source infrastructure secures critical financial systems and that vulnerabilities can put large amounts of value at risk. The appeal follows reports of sophisticated actors using advanced AI in cyberattacks and rising crypto hack losses.
