Amazon Launches New Chatbot-Style Interface for Alexa
Amazon has launched Alexa.com, a browser-based interface that allows users to interact with its Alexa+ AI assistant via chatbot-style conversations on the web. This move expands Alexa’s reach beyond smart speakers and mobile apps, positioning it alongside generative AI chatbots like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. Alexa+ differentiates itself by enabling smart-home controls directly through the browser and by supporting shopping and task management. The service is powered in part by a partnership with Anthropic and employs a “model-agnostic” approach, using multiple AI models instead of relying on a single one. Key features include image generation, shopping assistance, reminders, household notifications, document uploads, and control of connected devices, all accessible through both typed and spoken commands that sync across devices. The expanded integration does not alter Amazon’s privacy policies, offering users tools to manage and review their data through the Alexa Privacy dashboard. Access to Alexa.com is currently limited to Early Access users, with no announced date for wider availability.
