AmericanFortress proposes quantum-safe crypto wallet protection without fund migration
AmericanFortress has proposed a software-based cryptographic scheme meant to protect existing crypto wallets from future quantum attacks without changing wallet addresses, moving funds, or rotating keys. The design targets seed-based hierarchical deterministic wallets used across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and other elliptic-curve networks. Instead of replacing current cryptography, it uses zero-knowledge proofs derived from a wallet’s original seed phrase, while nodes verify those proofs and users keep signing with existing keys. The proposal is published as a non-peer-reviewed technical paper. The company argues this could help shield assets that may become vulnerable if powerful quantum computers emerge, citing estimates that large amounts of Bitcoin could be at risk. Other firms are pursuing different post-quantum approaches, including hardware wallets that use post-quantum signatures. Broader blockchain research on quantum-resistant migration is also accelerating.
