Base to Prioritize Creators Over Traders, Says Architect Jesse Pollak
Coinbase’s Layer 2 network Base, led by Jesse Pollak, emphasizes a focus on creators despite criticism from Pump.fun co-founder Alon Cohen, who argues traders are more vital to crypto. Pollak asserts that the platform prioritizes helping creators and developers, stating that trading is a result of creativity. A recent onchain campaign involving an automatic token minting through Zora led to a market cap surge to $16.9 million, followed by a 92% crash. Base clarified that it did not sell the tokens, which were deemed unofficial. Cohen contends that without trader demand, creative projects struggle to survive. Pollak maintains that the mission is to build a global on-chain economy centered on ownership and creativity. Tensions increased with Zora's announcement of its own token launch, although Pollak denied any coordination with Zora regarding the timing. The auto-minted token's value has since dropped significantly, now valued at $5 million.
