Binance can cut a winning Bitcoin hedge even when customer assets are backed
Binance’s proof of reserves verifies that ten tokens, including Bitcoin, were backed at least 1:1 in an Oct. 31 snapshot, but it does not reveal current, contract-specific futures insurance capacity. Binance said some excess futures insurance reserves helped replenish assets stolen in a security incident; the disclosure alone does not establish a shortfall or increased ADL risk. Auto-deleveraging can reduce profitable opposing futures positions when a fund reaches its takeover-capacity limit or cannot absorb losses, potentially breaking a hedge and exposing a holder to further price moves. Eligibility for Binance’s lower-priority Delta Neutral Account queue requires specific account status, margin settings and exposure thresholds, and does not prevent ADL. Rules and protections vary by contract, product and Binance entity.
