Binance warns of second wave of crypto theft as $6.3 billion hack recovery continues
Binance warned customers about impersonation and wallet-approval scams targeting users during its phased withdrawal reopening after an Oct. 29 hot-wallet breach that reportedly stole about $6.3 billion. Scammers may offer paid queue access or recovery help, or direct users to fake verification sites and malicious wallets; Binance says it does not charge to unlock withdrawals or provide paid recovery. The exchange says it has replaced about 95% of affected assets and is replenishing the rest. It also completed a zero-knowledge proof for an Oct. 31 reserve snapshot covering ten cryptocurrencies, allowing users to verify their snapshot balances were backed at least 1:1. The proof reflects only that snapshot, not Binance’s current solvency. Withdrawals began reopening Nov. 1, with further phases planned.
