Bitcoin Red Team Says AI Is Finding Critical Exploits Across Core Projects
A volunteer security effort says frontier AI models scanned 150 Bitcoin repositories and found more than a dozen vulnerabilities. AnchorWatch CEO Rob Hamilton said the team has spent about $20,000 on AI services to build a “Bitcoin red team” platform that tests software like an attacker would. The system uses models from Kimi, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Z.ai to detect flaws and generate reports. Pseudonymous Bitcoin developer Calle said the team has created multiple AI-powered review systems for wallets, cryptographic libraries, infrastructure, and other Bitcoin projects, reporting critical vulnerabilities to several teams. The projects and specific bugs were not disclosed. The work reflects a broader trend in crypto security, where AI is increasingly being used to uncover vulnerabilities faster than human teams can patch them.
