Hashdex Liquidates DEFI As First US Spot Bitcoin ETF Closure Arrives
Hashdex is liquidating its Hashdex Bitcoin ETF (DEFI), the first US spot Bitcoin ETF closure since the category launched in 2024. The fund stopped trading on NYSE Arca on August 17, with cash liquidation distributions expected August 24–28. Hashdex cited low assets under management, high operating costs, and a small asset base of about $14.7 million. The closure does not signal failure for the broader spot Bitcoin ETF market. Larger funds from issuers like BlackRock and Fidelity continue to جذب significant inflows. DEFI’s exit reflects consolidation in a crowded, highly competitive ETF segment where scale, liquidity, distribution, and low fees determine survival. Small products with weak demand may increasingly be absorbed out of the market.
