This spot Bitcoin ETF only logged six inflow days ever – now investors have until August 17 before forced cash liquidation
Hashdex will stop trading its DEFI Bitcoin ETF after the Aug. 17 close and liquidate the fund, with remaining investors paid in cash by Aug. 28 based on the fund’s net asset value after Bitcoin price moves and closing costs. The fund has already been shrinking: assets fell to about $8.7 million and holdings to 134.95 BTC on Aug. 11 from $11.77 million and 180.26 BTC on Aug. 7, while shares outstanding dropped 25% to 120,000, showing investors were exiting ahead of the shutdown. The closure stands in contrast to broader US spot Bitcoin ETF demand, which recently produced hundreds of millions in net inflows, led overwhelmingly by BlackRock’s IBIT. DEFI has struggled to attract capital since converting to direct Bitcoin holdings in March 2024, recording very few inflow days and persistent net outflows. Hashdex says it is not leaving the US market and still manages more than $200 million in US-available products.
