Mistral and HUMAIN Are Building 'Sovereign AI' in Saudi Arabia
Mistral and HUMAIN plan to build sovereign AI infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and across the region, in a collaboration worth hundreds of millions of euros. The Paris-based open-weights lab will work with HUMAIN, the Saudi Public Investment Fund–owned AI company, to develop and localize advanced models and deploy AI services inside the Kingdom and nearby markets. The partnership targets “sovereign AI,” where data stays under local control and models can use open weights. It also extends Mistral’s compute footprint into Saudi capacity and includes a joint sales push for regulated industries. The deal fits a broader Gulf push to attract European AI firms, while HUMAIN continues to assemble major infrastructure partnerships with NVIDIA, xAI, AWS, AMD, and Cisco.
