Crypto Market Flips From Fear to 'Extreme Greed' for First Time Since 2024
Crypto sentiment has flipped to “extreme greed” for the first time since late 2024. CoinMarketCap’s Crypto Fear and Greed Index hit 81, up from 36 a month ago and 41 a week ago, marking a rapid 45-point surge and the sharpest move from fear to greed in its history. The mood shift follows a rebound from a February low of 5, showing a six-month swing from capitulation to strong bullishness. Bitcoin is driving the move, rising about 24% in a week and gaining market share versus the broader crypto market. The catalyst came after the U.S. Treasury said it would double long-bond buybacks, which helped weaken the dollar and boost bitcoin demand as an inflation hedge. The rally also triggered a short squeeze, liquidating more than $4 billion in crypto shorts, while Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs saw roughly $2.3 billion in combined inflows.
