Bitget clarifies $388M in assets affected by security breach

Summary

Bitget updated its breach report, saying about $387.5 million in assets were transferred to attacker-controlled addresses, up from the earlier $352 million estimate. The higher figure comes from a fuller accounting that added affected funds on Zcash and TRON, not from new unauthorized transfers. Bitget said the incident is contained and no further unauthorized transfers are possible. It also said withdrawals will remain paused and launched a bounty program to encourage freezing or recovery of funds. The breach affected assets across EVM networks, the XRP Ledger, Zcash, and TRON, including XRP, ETH, USDT, ZEC, USDC, USDT0, XAUt, BNB, AVAX, and TRX. Even with the revision, it remains one of the largest crypto exchange hacks, though smaller than Bybit’s roughly $1.5 billion Ether theft in February 2025.
