BlackRock seeks to shield bitcoin (BTC) investors from losses after Calamos fund weathers 50% crash
Summary
BlackRock filed to launch the iShares Bitcoin Managed Protect ETF, designed to offer capped upside exposure to bitcoin alongside downside protection. The filing did not specify the protection level or upside cap. The fund would build on IBIT, BlackRock’s spot bitcoin ETF, which has more than $65 billion in assets. Calamos already offers similar protected bitcoin funds; one reportedly fell just 1% during its protection period while bitcoin dropped sharply from its record high. BlackRock also launched a bitcoin income fund that sells call options.
