Boerse Stuttgart receives first crypto license in Germany under MiCA
Boerse Stuttgart Digital Custody became Germany's first crypto asset service provider to receive a full license under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) on January 17, granted by BaFin. This license aims to position Boerse as a regulated infrastructure provider for banks, brokers, and asset managers. MiCA, effective from December 30, 2024, is the first comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets. Concerns exist regarding potential overregulation affecting retail investors, who may face increased scrutiny and obligations to provide personal data. Noncompliant blockchain protocols could face enforcement actions from European governments. Major financial institutions, like Societe Generale, are preparing for MiCA by launching compliant products, such as the EUR CoinVertible stablecoin.
