Cetus’ hack response on Sui was once successful on Solana
Cetus, a Sui-based decentralized exchange, is offering a bounty to recover $6 million of the $223 million stolen in a recent exploit, mirroring a strategy used by Crema Finance after its $9 million hack in 2022. The Cetus development team, linked to Crema, is negotiating with the hacker to return most funds in exchange for immunity from legal action. This approach has faced backlash from users demanding a formal compensation plan, as the CETUS token's value has significantly dropped. Sui validators have frozen $162 million of the stolen funds, raising concerns about centralization due to their limited number of validators. Critics argue this undermines decentralization principles, while some community members defend the actions as necessary for security. The hacker has not yet accepted the offer, and funds remain inactive.
