Circle CEO signals mainstream transition with expansion across 40 developing nations
Circle plans to expand USDC into about 50 emerging and developing markets, targeting rising demand for digital-dollar payments and cross-border transfers. CEO Jeremy Allaire said stablecoins are moving into mainstream use. USDC has about $72.6 billion in circulation, roughly a quarter of the stablecoin market, versus Tether’s nearly 60% share. Circle’s planned $400 million acquisition of payments firm Tazapay would provide access to banking and payment networks across more than 100 markets. The company has also launched its payments-focused Arc blockchain and received U.S. federal trust bank approval. Allaire cited clearer regulation, including the GENIUS Act, as a driver of adoption, and noted emerging use of USDC by AI agents for small payments.
