Citi to Launch Bitcoin Custody as Wall Street Pushes Deeper Into Crypto
Citi is preparing to add Bitcoin custody to its custody and settlement offerings through Custody+, alongside traditional securities. Clients will be able to access both traditional asset custody and crypto custody within the same framework. The move expands plans Citi disclosed in October to launch institutional Bitcoin custody in 2026. Citi says Custody+ reflects its broader push to modernize infrastructure, with more than 80% of asset-servicing event volume already processed in real time and its Citi Token Services platform enabling near-instant movement of tokenized deposits in select markets. The announcement fits a wider trend of major banks expanding into digital assets, including efforts tied to tokenized stocks, ETFs, and crypto custody services.
