Crypto Biz: Treasury’s ‘Not-QE’ playbook sends Bitcoin higher
Bitcoin and Ether rallied after the US Treasury doubled certain long-dated bond buybacks, a liquidity move that boosted risk assets without formal QE. Bitcoin rose more than 23% toward $79,000, and Standard Chartered’s Geoff Kendrick said BTC could reach $100,000 by year-end if it holds above $65,500, calling the buybacks “exactly the type of thing Bitcoin loves.” Crypto firms are responding to the macro backdrop: Metaplanet is expanding its Bitcoin treasury strategy into the US by taking control of Nasdaq-listed Super League Enterprise, contributing 2,100 BTC and cash in a deal that will rename the company Superplanet. Cypherpunk Technologies is also making a big bet, spending $33.33 million to acquire a Zcash mining fleet that gives it about 18% of Zcash’s hashrate. Separately, the CFTC is reviewing proposed futures tied to AI computing capacity, potentially affecting planned products from CME and ICE.
