Crypto PAC pours $1M into Michigan Democratic primary race
A Fairshake affiliate, Protect Progress PAC, spent nearly $986,000 on ads supporting Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar and attacking challenger Donavan McKinney in Michigan’s 13th District ahead of the Aug. 4 primary. This mirrors its 2024 spending of about $1 million backing Thanedar, who won that primary and the general election. Fairshake and affiliates say they have about $191 million available to influence key races. Thanedar has voted for several major crypto bills in Congress, including CLARITY and GENIUS, while McKinney has not publicly focused on digital assets. McKinney accused the crypto lobby of rewarding Thanedar for pro-crypto votes. The PAC also spent over $100,000 supporting Rep. Greg Stanton’s reelection in Arizona, and another Fairshake affiliate spent more than $65,000 backing a crypto-friendly Republican in Washington state.
