Crypto Payments Firm MoonPay Secures New York BitLicense
MoonPay has received its BitLicense and money transmitter license from the New York Department of Financial Services, allowing New York customers to access its full range of fiat-to-crypto services. The BitLicense is essential for conducting virtual currency business in New York, enabling custody of digital assets and exchange services. MoonPay now holds money transmitting licenses in 47 U.S. jurisdictions and registrations in the UK, Australia, and Canada. New York City Mayor Eric Adams has suggested eliminating the BitLicense to promote crypto activities. MoonPay recently established a new headquarters in New York City and aims to bridge traditional finance with the crypto economy. The company reported profitability in 2024 and plans to invest further in talent in New York and the U.S.
