Crypto Payments Go Mobile: USDC to Introduce ‘Tap-and-Go’ on iPhones
Circle, a fintech company, plans to enable 'tap-and-go' payments using USDC on iPhones following Apple's decision to allow third-party access to its NFC chip and Secure Element technology. This move could revolutionize payment systems, allowing point-of-sale systems to communicate directly with iPhone wallets for blockchain-based transactions. The access to NFC technology also opens doors for innovative applications beyond USDC, such as handling NFTs and managing other crypto stablecoins. However, Apple's third-party access to its NFC chip and Secure Element technology is limited to selected countries, excluding the European Union. Despite being the second largest crypto stablecoin, USDC is making its mark in the decentralized finance (DeFi) sector, supporting 77 chains.
