CryptoPunks NFT Sells for $6 Million in Ethereum—At a $10 Million Loss
A CryptoPunks NFT, CryptoPunk #3100, was sold for approximately $6 million worth of Ethereum, resulting in a $10 million loss for the seller. The NFT was purchased in March 2024 for 4,500 ETH, valued at around $16 million at that time. The sale, facilitated by crypto art brokerage Fountain, involved 4,000 ETH. The buyer's wallet was funded with ETH from an account labeled "Coinbase Prime 2." CryptoPunk #3100 has previously sold for $7.58 million and $16.03 million, making this sale the largest on-chain transaction since April 2024. Alien CryptoPunks are the rarest type, with the highest sales recorded for these assets. The overall financial performance of the CryptoPunks collection has declined, with a 44% drop in floor price over the last 90 days, now at $64,727. The collection was created by Larva Labs in 2017 and sold to Yuga Labs in 2022.
