Decentralized Exchange SushiSwap Goes Live on Bitcoin Sidechain Rootstock

Summary

Decentralized exchange SushiSwap has launched on Bitcoin sidechain Rootstock. Rootstock, established in 2018, aims to introduce decentralized finance features to the Bitcoin network, similar to those found on Ethereum and BNB Chain. It is the first Bitcoin sidechain compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), a smart contract-executing software. Rootstock's objective is to merge Bitcoin's security with Ethereum's smart contract capabilities to create a platform for decentralized applications. The ecosystem uses the RBTC token, pegged 1:1 with BTC. This integration follows Uniswap's deployment on the Bitcoin sidechain six months ago. Rootstock's bridged total value locked is over $450 million. Since 2023, there has been a rapid expansion of features on the Bitcoin network, traditionally associated with Ethereum. The Ordinals protocol was the starting point, allowing a version of NFTs to be minted and stored on Bitcoin.
