DeFi Borrower Behavior Key to Gauging Tokenization Risks: BIS Study

Summary

A Bank for International Settlements (BIS) study found that DeFi borrowers are cautious with leverage and tend to deposit more after higher returns. The study used Ethereum blockchain data to analyze lending resilience and strategic substitution behavior. BIS has been exploring DeFi, and in 2023, it tested cross-border trading of wholesale central bank digital currencies and DeFi elements. The study aimed to understand user behavior and pool dynamics within DeFi lending, given the significant scale of collateralized borrowing in DeFi protocols.
