Detained Binance Exec Pleads Not Guilty to Money Laundering Charges in Nigeria: Reports

Summary

Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges in a Nigerian high court. Gambaryan was detained in February along with another executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, on accusations that Binance processed illegal funds and manipulated the exchange rate for the Nigerian naira. Anjarwalla escaped custody in March and both executives have since filed a lawsuit against the Nigerian government for human rights violations. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have accused Binance, Gambaryan, and Anjarwalla of tax evasion and money laundering. Despite Binance's statement that Gambaryan should not be held responsible for the company's actions, a Nigerian judge allowed the suit to continue. Gambaryan is charged with five counts, including unlawfully negotiating foreign exchange rates in Nigeria.
