Nigeria Court Adjourns Hearings for Binance, Execs' Tax Evasion Cases: Reports
The Federal High Court in Abuja, Nigeria has postponed hearings for the local tax authority's cases against crypto exchange Binance Holdings and two of its executives. The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) was unable to serve charges to Binance's Head of Financial Crime Compliance, Tigran Gambaryan, while he was in custody. Another Binance executive, Nadeem Anjarwalla, escaped custody after being detained in February. The hearings have been adjourned until April 8 for Binance Holdings and April 19 for Gambaryan and Anjarwalla. FIRS filed tax evasion charges against Binance in March, including non-payment of Value-Added Tax (VAT), Company Income Tax, failure to tax returns, and aiding customers to evade taxes through its platform. Gambaryan will remain in the custody of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
