Dogecoin Is Getting Apps as DogeOS Opens Its Public Testnet
DogeOS has launched a public testnet for a Dogecoin application layer, aiming to add Ethereum-style apps without changing Dogecoin’s base chain. It is built by the team behind MyDoge and runs as a separate layer using a zkVM and EVM compatibility, so existing Ethereum smart contracts and tools can work there. Testnet fees are paid in DOGE, and a faucet distributes test tokens. Several projects are already building on it, including lending, perpetual trading, a CDP stablecoin, prediction market aggregation, and Doge-themed games. DogeOS describes the launch as Dogecoin’s shift from a simple asset to an ecosystem, while Dogecoin Foundation leadership emphasizes keeping the L1 ledger unchanged and adding utility above it. No mainnet launch date has been announced.
