MetaMask exits Lido validators as it investigates security incident

Summary

MetaMask said it is responding to a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure and is taking precautionary action by exiting affected staking validators. It said the issue is being handled internally with external security partners and that no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets has been identified. The action applies to validators in its non-custodial staking operations. Lido said MetaMask Staking has begun exiting Ethereum validators from the Lido protocol, with all affected validators expected to exit by Oct. 7. The process may cause missed rewards and possible downtime penalties, and returned ETH could take up to about 45 days to re-enter the protocol because of the exit, withdrawal, and re-entry cycle.
