DuckDuckGo’s camera-free “Normal F***ing Sunglasses,” made with Knockaround and priced at $35, sold out the first production run in under a week and is now taking preorders. The sunglasses use a matte-black frame with polarized UV400 lenses and come with a hard case, but deliberately include no camera, microphone, AI, battery, or electronics. DuckDuckGo framed the product as a joke with a serious message: criticism of camera-enabled “smart glasses” from companies like Meta and Google, which have raised privacy concerns over covert recording and misuse. The launch also fits DuckDuckGo’s broader anti-AI strategy: it has kept generative AI opt-in, says most users don’t want AI in search, and has seen traffic grow to its no-AI search page after Google’s AI-focused redesign.
