Pirated Copies of 'The Odyssey' Are Hiding Crypto-Stealing Malware

Summary

Fake pirated downloads of *The Odyssey* are already circulating with Lumma Stealer malware. The files are disguised as HD WEBRip or Blu-ray rips, but they are actually Windows executables, often using VLC- or video-like icons to fool users. Once launched, Lumma Stealer can steal browser passwords, cookies, payment data, remote desktop credentials, and cryptocurrency wallets, and it can bypass multi-factor protection by stealing authentication cookies. Bitdefender says it blocked the campaign and noted it closely resembles a 2025 attack that hid the same malware in fake *Mission: Impossible* files. The incident highlights a recurring tactic: attackers package wallet-stealing code inside popular downloads people want, such as pirated movies, game mods, or developer tools. Recommended defenses include using legitimate streaming services, never running video files that are actually executables, and showing file extensions in Windows.
