Ethereum Gets Another Privacy Boost as Aztec Brings Back zk.money
Aztec Labs relaunched zk.money, a self-custodial privacy wallet for Ethereum users to send and receive stablecoins without exposing balances, amounts, or recipients. Users claim an ENS-based tag like bob.zk.money that maps to a deposit address. The wallet now runs on Aztec Network, a privacy-focused Ethereum layer-2, and uses zero-knowledge proofs generated on the user’s device to verify transactions without revealing details. Privacy is partial: deposits from Ethereum remain public, while transfers inside zk.money stay hidden. Supported assets include USDC, USDT, and DAI. Limits apply, with a $2,500 cap per transaction and a shared $50,000 daily deposit limit. Aztec says no administrator can freeze or spend user funds. The original zk.money launched in 2021, reached over 75,000 wallets and $100 million in volume, then was shut down while Aztec built its own network.
