MetaMask Exits Lido Validators Amid Infrastructure ‘Security Incident’
MetaMask said it is responding to a security incident affecting part of its infrastructure and is proactively exiting affected Ethereum validators from Lido as a precaution. It said there is no immediate threat to MetaMask wallets and that the staking service is non-custodial, so it does not hold withdrawal keys. Lido said the validator exits may reduce rewards and could cause downtime penalties, with exits expected to complete by Oct. 7 and full ETH withdrawal taking up to about 45 days. Independent onchain analysis suggested the issue may have involved about 0.36 ETH in misrouted rewards, while a much larger set of validators—about 17,000 holding roughly 523,000 ETH—was being exited defensively. Lido said stETH holders do not need to act and that its reserve fund and operator diversity provide buffers. A full investigation is ongoing.
