Ethereum validators pocket $30 million windfall as Binance hackers lose $119 million in rushed trades
Summary
A Bitquery investigation found that traders and bots exploited price distortions during the $6.3 billion Binance hack. The attackers lost about $119 million through unfavorable swaps, while arbitrageurs made roughly $60 million after costs. Ethereum builders and validators received about $29.5 million in payments as bots competed for blockspace; builders’ tips surged more than 2,200-fold from the prior night. The attackers’ large purchases pushed Uniswap’s WETH/USDT pool prices as much as 38% above broader markets. On Tron, arbitrageurs earned another $12.4 million before fees. Competition also caused thousands of failed Ethereum transactions, and some bots lost money after fees exceeded their gains.
