EU authorities include HTX exchange in Russian sanctions
The EU added HTX, formerly Huobi Global, to a sanctions package targeting entities that help Russia evade financial restrictions over the war in Ukraine. The European Council said HTX is among 18 non-EU crypto or payment service providers that significantly undermine the purpose of sanctions by enabling transfers, links to Russia’s financial system, or circumvention of EU measures. The EU said it is restricting transactions between these entities and EU operators to cut off financial support for Russia’s war effort. On the same day, EU officials also moved to bar Belarusian nationals and residents from owning or managing crypto exchanges and digital asset service providers under MiCA-related rules. The UK sanctioned HTX in May on similar grounds, alleging it helped support Russia’s government through sanctioned financial channels.
