EU proposes ban on 11 crypto platforms in Russia sanctions push
The EU has proposed its 21st sanctions package against Russia, including a ban on transactions involving 11 crypto platforms. The measures would expand pressure beyond Russian banks and energy firms to crypto-related services and third-country entities accused of helping Moscow evade war-related sanctions. Kaja Kallas said the package will also tighten restrictions on crypto-asset services to certain third countries and add more designations. Ursula von der Leyen said the plan targets 31 more Russian banks and 20 entities in third countries, including banks, crypto platforms, and oil traders. The specific 11 platforms were not named. The proposal follows recent UK sanctions on HTX, tied to alleged support for Russian financial networks, though HTX denied the claims.
