Ex-BoE deputy governor headlines trio of former central bankers joining Fnality
Fnality appointed former Bank of England deputy governor Jon Cunliffe as chair of its UK board as it expands blockchain-based settlement systems for euros and US dollars. It also named former Deutsche Bundesbank payments chief Jochen Metzger to its European subsidiary’s supervisory board, with Ron Berndsen joining as well. Fnality’s sterling payment system launched in 2023 and is regulated by the Bank of England, allowing settlement in central bank money. The company says its infrastructure is aimed at supporting tokenized asset markets, stablecoins, and tokenized deposits. It has set up a subsidiary in Germany to develop a euro system and Fnality Bank U.S. in Connecticut to pursue a dollar system and work with regulators. The London-based fintech raised $136 million in Series C funding in September 2025.
