Former FTX Executive Ryan Salame Sentenced to 7.5 Years in Prison

Summary

Former FTX executive Ryan Salame has been sentenced to 90 months (7.5 years) in prison for advancing the interests of FTX and Alameda Research through an unlawful political influence campaign and an unlicensed money transmitting business. Salame had previously pled guilty to conspiracy for unlawful political contributions, defrauding the Federal Election Commission, and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business. Despite his cooperation with U.S. authorities and initiating the FTX investigation, he did not receive the hoped-for leniency and shorter sentence. In addition to his prison term, Salame was sentenced to three years of supervised release and ordered to pay over $6 million in forfeiture and over $5 million in restitution. Former Alameda-FTX executives Caroline Ellison and Gary Wang also pled guilty and sought plea deals to avoid jail.
