French minister to meet crypto firms after kidnapping attempt
French interior minister Bruno Retailleau plans to meet with cryptocurrency professionals following a violent kidnapping attempt on the family of Pierre Noizat, CEO of crypto exchange Paymium. On May 13, three masked men attacked Noizat's daughter in Paris, attempting to force her and her son into a van. Passersby intervened, scaring off the assailants. Local authorities are investigating the incident, with the abandoned vehicle found nearby. The rise in such attacks has prompted concerns within the crypto community, as highlighted by Jameson Lopp's GitHub list documenting numerous offline crypto robberies. A University of Cambridge study indicates that these "wrench attacks" are often underreported. Paris has experienced similar incidents, including the recent kidnapping of a crypto entrepreneur's father and the abduction of Ledger co-founder David Balland earlier this year.
