G20 members tout ‘clear pathways’ for digital asset innovation

Summary

G20 members agreed to support policies that recognize digital assets’ potential for broad-based economic growth. In a statement released by the US Treasury, the group said digital asset innovation has a “transformative role” and committed to developing responsible regulatory and supervisory frameworks that protect financial stability while supporting economic growth and innovation. The G20 also pushed countries to improve cross-border payments and the transfer of financial-services data. It said it is waiting for Financial Stability Board work on global stablecoins, including data sources, availability, and related challenges. The stance aligns with broader efforts by major economies to create clearer crypto and stablecoin rules, including the EU’s MiCA framework and US stablecoin legislation.
