Goldman Sachs eyeing crypto market-making for Bitcoin, Ethereum if US regulations shift
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon indicated the firm may consider becoming a spot market maker for Bitcoin and Ethereum if U.S. regulations change significantly. Currently, Goldman Sachs cannot hold crypto due to regulatory constraints. Solomon described crypto as an “interesting technology” and noted increasing investor interest amid potential regulatory shifts. He dismissed concerns about reputational risks from crypto scandals, emphasizing that such risks are tied to business partners rather than the assets themselves. Goldman Sachs is deepening its involvement in blockchain technology, launching a spin-off platform focused on blockchain solutions and preparing three tokenization products for institutional clients. The firm reported owning approximately $718 million in Bitcoin through spot exchange-traded funds in its latest SEC filing.
