Google to preview a new crypto security system as private-key hacks mount
Google unveiled Google Multi-Party Compute, a private-preview service for banks and other institutions to secure and authorize cryptocurrency and tokenized-asset transactions. It splits signing-key control across separate systems, applies institutional transaction policies, and supports key recovery, aiming to reduce risks from compromised credentials. Alphabet is already using the technology for assets on Ethereum and Solana, while unnamed institutions are testing it. Google plans commercial availability in early 2027 but has not disclosed pricing. The service can distribute key shares across Google Cloud, customer hardware and other providers, though security still depends on configuration and provider trust. It enters a market with established custody-security firms and is designed to support future post-quantum upgrades, but does not yet offer post-quantum signing.
