Wall Street giant DTCC launches tokenization for stocks, ETFs and U.S. Treasuries

Summary

DTCC has launched a tokenization service on Canton Network and its private Besu blockchain, initially covering 34 eligible securities—large-cap stocks, ETFs and U.S. Treasury securities—with a combined market value of about $30 trillion. Tokens are backed one-for-one by securities held at its subsidiary DTC, while official ownership records remain with DTC. Eligible firms can tokenize during business hours; afterward, tokens can move between approved wallets around the clock, subject to compliance rules. Twenty firms, including major banks and asset managers, have signed on. DTCC plans to add Stellar and Circle’s Arc blockchain in 2027, plus digital-cash settlement and collateral tools. The launch follows an SEC no-action letter and advances efforts to integrate tokenized assets with established U.S. market infrastructure.
