Grayscale Battling Outflows And Lower-Cost ETFs, Q1 Revenue Stays Flat At $156M
Grayscale Investments, issuer of a US-approved spot Bitcoin ETF, saw flat Q1 revenues due to maintaining fees on its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC). Despite $17.4B outflows post-conversion to an ETF, Q1 revenue of $156M exceeded expectations. Grayscale plans to spin off assets into a lower-fee "Bitcoin Mini Trust" to address competition. Digital Currency Group (DCG), Grayscale's parent company, reported an 11% Q1 revenue increase to $229M, attributed to higher asset prices. Foundry, DCG's mining subsidiary, saw a 35% revenue increase, while Luno, its crypto exchange subsidiary, experienced a 46% sales boost. US spot Bitcoin ETFs have seen over $11B net inflow, but demand has recently declined due to tightening US financial conditions amidst persistent inflation challenges faced by the Federal Reserve. Bitcoin is currently trading at $62,100 with significant price volatility.
